Red Volcano is a publisher research data platform for the global ad tech industry, built in Southampton. Their products give supply-side platforms, ad networks, DSPs, and agencies the intelligence to find and connect with publishers across web, app, and connected TV — their Web Discovery platform alone indexes 24 million websites. Customers include PubMatic, Magnite, and The Guardian.


🎯 The situation

As Red Volcano moved from building product to growing commercially, founder Barrie Jarman needed to hire the company’s first SDRs — salespeople who could get in front of the right people across the ad tech ecosystem and start building a pipeline.

There was no hiring process, no sourcing approach, no templates. Just a clear need and a founder with more important things to do than build one from scratch.


⚙️ What we did

Cohort worked with Red Volcano on a Foundation engagement. The goal wasn’t to become their permanent hiring partner — it was to run a successful round, build the infrastructure, and hand it over. If Red Volcano never needed to use us again, that would be a good outcome.

We ran the process end-to-end for two SDR hires: building the role spec, sourcing candidates, handling initial screening, and bringing a shortlist to Barrie for final assessment. Alongside the hires, we built out the hiring process itself — the documentation, approach, and templates Red Volcano now use to run their own searches.

Total cost: £4,000.
